With so much going on in the world of beauty right now deciphering the good from the ‘you must be crazy’, can be quite a challenge. I’ve tried my fair share and after some careful consideration here’s my take on the best beauty ‘do’s’ for summer…
Liquid lipsticks. Plastered all over the faces of beauty gurus, MUAs and celebrities alike, everyone is jumping on this trend and with good reason. Applying a matte liquid lipstick is a great way to transform any makeup look to give a super glam finish. I’m really into brown/nude shades with a burgundy liner. I love adding some dimension to the lip by contouring using a darker colour on the outside then graduating to a lighter shade for the inner part. Choosing the right product is fairly easy too as there are loads of options available. A few of my personal faves are the Sleek Matte Me Ultra smooth matte lip cream in shabby chic, Colourpop’s Sting Raye, and LA Splash Liquid lipstick in Untamed.
Shine bright like a diamond. Glittery eyeshadows are everywhere this summer. Perfect for awards ceremonies, dinner, or just a night out you can’t go wrong with some shimmer. If I’m wearing this look I like to make my eyes stand out and keep everything else a bit more muted. Eyecandy cosmetics have an amazing range, Candy Apple and Sizzling Cinnamon are just gorgeous.
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. Creating a flawless face starts with a great foundation and I don’t mean the type you apply with an Artis brush! Exfoliation helps to remove the outermost layers of dead skin and excess buildup for that deep cleanse. Preparing the skin by exfoliating before putting makeup on definitely makes for a smoother application, giving an almost airbrushed result. To exfoliate I vote skin-brushing using products like the Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect skin face brush, or incorporating chemical agents containing specific acids like Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant or Murad’s AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser.
Braids are the go-to hairstyle for the summer. Worn chunky and bold, Dutch braids are perfect to add a little je ne sais quoi to any look. With my texture hair I like to lay my edges down with some Grooming Balm then manipulate my baby hairs into each braid, this creates a more effortless finish. For special occasions I also add a hair perfume like SHOW Beauty’s Decadence Hair Fragrance - divine!
