Radiant, luminous and glowing; three words that sum up how we all want to look. Read Samantha Silver’s ultimate cheat sheet to sun-kissed, summer skin…
The number one beauty goal for all women is glowing, flawless skin, so it’s little wonder that the beauty landscape is flooded with products labeled with promises such as ‘glow-boosting’, ‘radiance-enhancing’ and ‘luminosity’. There are now 4.5 million hashtags on Instagram for glow and over 1 million for highlighter. With this in mind, here’s your ultimate guide to getting that elusive glow…
For a red-carpet worthy complexion that looks like you live on a diet of green juice, kale and yoga, add a dose of Vitamin C to your skincare regime; this antioxidant neutralises free radicals to fight skin-dulling pollution, smoothes, brightens and minimises existing sun damage. Clinique Fresh Pressed 7 Day System is a week-long, two-step process of a powdered cleanser (just mix with water to activate) and moisturiser booster. Expect more glowing skin in days.
If there’s anyone who knows how to achieve a gorgeous glow, it’s make-up artist Tom Pecheux, the man responsible for creating the beauty looks on everyone from JLo to the Victoria Secret Angels. If you want that glow, then Pecheux says you need to swap your powder formulas for creams, “powders make the skin look matte, whereas creams melt into the skin for a dewy, luminous finish.” First, prep the skin with Becca Backlight Priming Filter, a bronze, light-reflecting primer that bathes all skin tones in a flattering, radiant glow. Next, take your foundation, Pecheux recommends YSL Touche Eclat Foundation and blending it with a smidge of liquid bronzer (try Sensai Bronzing Gel). Apply it only where needed to even out any discolouration – usually under the eyes, around the nose and chin – using your fingers instead of a brush.
There’s no point in achieving a glowing complexion for your body to let you down. For a natural looking, golden glow apply fake tan every three days. My favourite gradual tans are Crème de la Mer The Face and Body Gradual Tan and Clarins Radiance Plus Golden Glow Booster for Body, little droplets of fake tan that you can add to your regular body moisturiser. I prefer non-tinted tans, this means that you can sleep in them and they won’t transfer to your bed sheets. To keep your tan even and to avoid it going patchy, make sure that you moisturize every day with an oil-free moisturizer. The final trick is to gently exfoliate weekly. Keep up this regime throughout the summer and you won’t be caught out.
