TIPS #1: How can I make my fine hair look thicker?

We hear you: there’s a whole lot of joy to be had in swishing a bouncy, healthy head of hair around. If you’re not naturally imbued with Bardot boing, don’t worry - advances in haircare and styling can now transform even the limpest of locks into a plentiful mane.

Remove Grease. Start in the shower with a shampoo designed to inject body – Lux Volumising Shampoo works on all hair types from coloured and chemically-treated to your standard case of fine, undamaged hair. Wash twice if your roots are really greasy and follow with Lux Volume Conditioner, making sure to keep it on the mid-lengths and ends to avoid weighing down hair.

Add Bulk. Thickening sprays and mousses are great at creating the illusion of more lustrous hair as they contain polymers that act as little foam blocks to prop up strands. If you’re going for a spray, make sure you distribute it evenly through damp hair from roots to ends. Try Divine Thickening Mist, which is activated with heat or Lux Volume Mousse.

Get a Bouncy Blow Dry. Can’t get to a salon? Just do it at home - you’ll need to apply a volumising mist (Show Beauty Lux Volume Mist will do the job) to prep hair and then all you have to do is:

1) Section the top half of your hair up and tie up.

2) Wrap each section of hair around a large brush (we love GHD Ceramic Vented Radial Brush), lifting the hair and aiming the stream of warm air coming from your hairdryer at the roots. Make sure you’ve attached the nozzle to prevent frizz.

3) Untie your top section and repeat.

4) Apply a light mist of hairspray like Premiere Finishing Spray - it’ll lock your style in place without making hair stiff or sticky.

Pop A Supplement. As what you’re eating has a huge bearing on hair growth, it may be worth spending some time looking at your diet and weeding out potential growth inhibitors like alcohol and processed food. Once you’ve done that, a daily supplement like Viviscal can reverse hair thinning and really help add density.

… And There’s Always Dry Shampoo. This is the oldest trick in the book for good reason. For maximum poof, separate hair and spray shampoo close to the root in sections. Try Premiere Dry Shampoo, which smells so good it can double up as a hair perfume.
