Is glamour in your DNA
While it may not be in our original DNA, Irish ladies have come a long way from our rural roots and we love to dabble in glamour. What girl doesn’t like to go all-out to express her personal style and femininity?
Are you mad for beauty products
I think in this day and age, social media has opened a whole new window to the worlds of great skincare, dazzling make-up and fab hairstyling, and we love to take that inspiration and try it for ourselves. Lots of Irish women have beautiful, Northern European skin, and we like to keep it in tip-top condition, whether we choose to stay pale and interesting, or to bronze up with self-tan (a national obsession). When it comes to cosmetics, we love experimenting, and aren’t afraid of colour, contour and strobing and like all women around the globe, we spend time and money on our brows and lashes to ensure they look their best. Naturally, haircare features high on the list of priorities, and we spend plenty of money on salon-quality products and gadgets to recreate our favourite looks – beach waves and curly blowdries are particularly popular right now.
We have loads of home-grown beauty influencers, some of whom, like Angela Scanlon, Erika Fox (Retro Flame) and Darren Kennedy have gained global recognition. The Irish are apparently the Number One users of Snapchat where plenty more influencers share their tips and trips. We delve deep in to magazines and online, adding international titles ranging from Vogue to Grazia to our national favourites, of which I’m proud to say, IMAGE is one of the best-read.
Best beauty spot
While there are countless hot spots for skin, hair and make-up, Harvey Nichols in Dundrum Town Centre has a massive selection, from the big names to the highly specific. Popular names such as Crème de La Mer, Stila, Benefit and Elemis are joined by the fab finds in the Beyond Beauty section, and Ireland’s first Space NK is located in the same beauty hall. There’s also an excellent beauty room for treatments, superb fragrance bar, and a SHOW hair salon downstairs.
Tell us about the SHOW Beauty salon?
If you want that 40-minute time-haven to gather yourself and get your mojo back then this is your space. It’s a small, private offering (one basin and one chair) and a lot of women book their makeup, tan or brows with Shavata straight afterwards too.
It is a natural fit in the women’s wear area in Harvey Nichols - new, shiny and attractive, delivering the results that Irish women want. If you buy a product you get a blow-dry for free, they have also just launched their new care range of shampoo’s, conditioners and treatment masks, targeting various concerns, Repair, Moisture, and the Volume range is coming soon too. The range is composed by a series of really innovative, skincare-like ingredients such as luxurious Caviar and White Truffle, and effective but gentle Proteins from Soy, Wheat and Quinoa. They are also paraben and sulphate free for extra gentleness and care. Whether it’s the Finishing Spray or Dry Shampoo (that everyone is addicted to), we need high performers like these products. It’s not haircare, it’s hair ‘care’!
The team really know their stuff too and deliver blow-dries that last so you get a few days out of them. Aspiration is so much part of the brand. We are all familiar with Tamara Ecclestone here. She is a Glamazon and a great ambassador. SHOW Beauty ticks every box but in an effortless way. You’re not being a sold a proposition, it’s something you want to chase up.
