Dress? Check. Shoes? Check. Wedding ring? Check. Beauty prep? Umm… You’re not alone - when thinking of weddings it’s easy to get confused on beauty rules or let your routine slip. Here’s our go-to guide…
You’ve been poring over Pinterest for what seems like a lifetime prepping for the biggest day of your life. You’ve dedicated hours to searching for that dreamy silk plissé gown; you’ve been to numerous bridal fittings for said gown; you’ve spent hours hunting for the wedding shoes, and days deciding whether to veil or not to veil. The outfit is perfect right down to the drawers, but have you given any thought to your beauty regime? You may have the most amazing make-up and hairstylist booked, but you mustn’t forget to lay down the groundwork so your glam squad can prep you to perfection come W-Day…
Don’t change your haircut or your hairdresser. Now is not the time to leave your comfort zone with your tresses. The lob you thought was a good idea at the beginning of the year could leave you without those goddess locks you envisioned for your big day. We recommend speaking to your stylist as early as a year before the wedding to create a plan of action; which may include booking in six-weekly trims, organising your colour calendar and arranging treatments to get your locks in perfect nick.
Prevent pimples. Looking radiant and luminous is key on your wedding day. To avoid breakouts and get the glow, most dermatologists recommend monthly facials starting from the three month mark before the wedding. Creme de la Mer offers a three-step bridal service, which includes a consultation to create a personalised daily routine, a bespoke facial two months prior and a blast of radiance with a final facial in the last month.
Stick to what you know.Like your hair, don’t try anything new in the week leading up to the wedding. It’s also a good idea to have a trial run with your make-up artist to finalise your look and avoid allergic reactions to new products.
Get that red carpet glow.Who doesn’t want to look like Sienna Miller as they walk down the aisle? Make like the actress and prep your skin with Charlotte Tilbury’s Goddess Skin Clay Mask (Charlotte is said to use it on all her A-List clients before a big event). It will shrink pores, smooth and banish dull skin and replace it with a hydrated, healthy glow, creating the perfect base for your make-up.
Last minute lashes.Just as with your manicure and pedicure, your lash extension appointment should be the last thing you do to ensure they stay intact and ready to flutter as you reach your man at the altar. Make sure to have a trial run beforehand – perhaps before your hen party – so you can determine if you want a full luscious set or a more natural half-set.
Get ready in a button-down shirt or robe.Don’t make the mistake of wearing a tight t-shirt that you’ll have to peel off over your freshly made-up face and coiffed locks. Instead, wear something that can easily come off without disturbing the masterpiece that’s been created.
Brighten your smile.A quick blast of teeth whitening two weeks before the wedding will freshen up your laugh. If you do it any closer to the date, you may experience sensitivity that dentists call ‘zingers’. These pains don’t last long but the last thing you want is to be wincing as you say your vows.
Prepare for the worst. You have a back-up plan in place in case it rains at your summer wedding, so make sure you have a plan B in case you breakout or wake up with dark circles under your eyes. Skin tone correctors are a handy tool to have - if a pimple rears its ugly head on the day a green corrective concealer like YSL’s Touche Eclat Neutralizer in Vert Green will cancel out the redness. The same product in Apricot Bisque shade will disguise dark circles and the Violet will correct a yellow complexion.
